Obviously there is a performance hit that seems to influence cursors worst of all. Component Integration Services itself is implemented by using cursors and it may be part of the explanation. Therefore how do I use this?
Simple! Add the remote server by using sp_ addserver. Ensure that you define this as type sql_server or adaptive server enterprise. Create an "existing" table by using the definition of the remote table. Update statistics upon this new "existing" table. After that simply use it in joins exactly as when it was a local table.
