Computers data cache, that is, L1, L2, and L3 cache, this cache is generally situated on computer processor chip and not on the motherboard. The L1 cache or system cache is fastest cache and is always situated on the computer processor. The next fastest cache, L2 cache and then L3 cache are also on processor chip and not the motherboard. Some previous computers (for example: 486 computers) may have had either of such types of cache over the motherboard and even had the L2 cache expansion boards which could be added to computer.
