The rod cells in eyes are very sensitive to light and are accountable for the vision in dim light. This is termed as scotopic vision.

Cones as well comprise visual pigments made up of retinene joined with a protein opsin (or Photopsin) cones functions in bright light and the system consists of more acuity and can perceive colors (or Photopic vision).
