• Interleave is the procedure throughout which gaps are placed among two sectors on the platter of a disk.
• This was done in previous days when the computers were not speedy enough to read constant streams of data.
• With no interleaving there would be no gaps among the sectors and data would arrive instantly ere the reading unit is ready. Because of this to read the same data a whole rotation of the disk would be required once more.
• The interleaving ratio was not set and can be set through the end user depending on their system specs. At the present time the ratio of interleaving is 1:1 that is, no interleaving is employed.
