It stands for Nickel-Metal Hydride. Ni-MH is the rechargeable battery that is used primarily within the portable computers.Research of the Ni-MH system started in seventies as a means for the hydrogen storage for the Nickel Hydrogen battery. The metal hydride alloys were unstable in the cell environment and desired performance characteristics could not be achieved. As a result, development of Ni-MH slowed down. New hydride alloys were designed in the 1980's that were stable enough for use within the cell. As the late eighties, the Ni-MH has steadily increased, mainly in terms of the energy density. Design engineers have signified that the Ni-MH has the potential of higher energy densities.
