Name the hormones secreted by adenohypophysis
Name the hormones secreted by adenohypophysis? Describe their respective functions?
Expert
The adenohypophisys secretes GH (or growth hormone), prolactin, ACTH (or adrenocorticotropic hormone), FSH (or follicle-stimulating hormone), TSH (or thyroid-stimulating hormone), and LH (luteinizing hormone).GH, also known as somatotropic hormone (STH), acts on bones, cartilages and muscles promoting the growth of such tissues. Prolactin is the hormone which in women stimulates the production and secretion of milk by mammary glands. The ACTH is a hormone which stimulates the cortical part of the adrenal gland to generate and secrete cortical hormones (or glucocorticoids). The TSH is a hormone which stimulates the activity of thyroid gland rising the production and secretion of its hormones T3 and T4. The FSH is a gonadotropic hormone, that is, it stimulates the gonads and in women it acts on the ovaries inducing the growth of follicles, in men it stimulates spermatogenesis. The LH is as well a gonadotropic hormone which acts on the ovaries of women to stimulate ovulation and the making of corpus luteum (which secretes estrogen) and in men on testicles to stimulate the production of testosterone.
