• When a hard disk is working in general the read write head basically fly`s over the platter with no making any contact.
• Currently to prevent the head from touching the platter the head are physically moved (or  parked) to special areas also named as landing zones to saves from data loss.
• The landing zones are common areas where no data is kept.
• An additional approach is to leave the heads suspended in air so that they not at all come in contact with the platter surface.
• In legacy devices the heads couldn’t be automatically landed and so as to prevent them from touching the platter the user had to run programs yourself to park the heads.
