Data transfer group, Arithmetic group, Logical group, Branch control group and I/O and Machine control group are the instructions that generally manipulate data.
a) Data transfer group: - Instructions that are used to move the data from one register to other register, from the memory location to the register or register to the memory, between an I/O device and accumulator or between the register pair and stack come under this group.
b) Arithmetic group: Instructions of this group carry out the arithmetic operation like subtraction, addition, increment or decrement the data within the register or memory.
c) Logical group: - Instructions under this group carry out the logic operations like compare, AND, OR, rotate and so on.
d) Branch Control group: - It involves instructions for the conditional and unconditional jump, subroutine call and return and restart.
e) I/O and machine control group: - This includes instructions for the input/output ports, stack and machine control.
