Explain the tree girdling
Explain the tree girdling? What happens to the plant when that particular girdle is removed from the stem (below the branches)?
Expert
Malpighi’s girdling, or tree girdling, is defined as the removal from the stem of the complete external girdle consisting of the phloem (which is more external) however preserving the xylem (which is more internal). When the girdle such as that is isolated below the branches the plant dies since the organic food (sugar) is disallowed in order to pass to the region below the girdle and therefore, the roots die from the lack of nutrients. As the roots die, the plant does not get the water and mineral salts and dies too.
