Customer’s Master Record is a permanent record that contains key data about a business associate or a material. This data entered into the system before any communication can take place involving the business partner [customer] or a material. As entering whole information about a customer/material into the system before doing transactions insures that the subsequent transactions or inquiries will have reliable data and reports and analyses is to be completed in a logical manner. Master Records can be changed / edited when needed. Changing master records is frequently called "Maintaining" in SAP
