Enhanced Messaging Service or EMS, is defined as a cross-industry collaboration between the Ericsson, Samsung, Motorola, Siemens and Alcatel, among the others. It refers to an application-level extension to the Short Message Service (SMS) for cellular phones available on the TDMA, GSM and the CDMA networks.
EMS refers to an intermediate technology that exists between the SMS and MMS, offering some of the attributes of the MMS. EMS refers to a technology which is designed to work with the existing networks, however may finally be made outdated by the MMS.
