Endocrine gland is a gland whose hormones (called secretions) are collected by the blood and reach the tissues all the way through the circulation. The pituitary (hypophysis) and the adrenals are an example of the endocrine glands.
Exocrine gland is a gland whose hormones are released externally through ducts (intestinal lumen, mouth, into the skin, etc.). The salivary glands and the sebaceous glands are examples of exocrine glands.
