The waterfall model is the oldest and the most broadly used paradigm.

Though, most of the projects rarely follow its sequential flow. This is due to the inherent problems related with its rigid format. Namely:

a) It just incorporates iteration indirectly; therefore changes might cause considerable confusion as the project progresses.

b) As the client generally consists of a vague idea of exactly what is needed from the software product, this WM has intricacy accommodating the natural uncertainty which exists at the starting of the project.

c) The customer just sees a working version of the product after it has been coded. This might outcome in disaster if any undetected problems are precipitated to this phase.
