LGA socket refers to the connection point for the central processing unit (CPU) to get fitted into the motherboard. The LGA stands for the Land Grid Array. Similar to PGA, it refers to the system for facilitating the electrical contact between the components (particularly CPUs and the motherboards). LGA system uses a series of small metal pads over bottom of elements to be attached that match up to the series of small pins within the motherboard socket.
