Grasslands are classified into steppes and savannahs. In steppes, the prevailing vegetation is grass, such as in the pampas of South America and in prairies of North America. The fauna is majorly formed by the herbivores, such as rodents and ungulates. The savannahs present small trees, such as for example the Brazilian cerrado or African savannahs. The fauna is diverse; in Brazilian cerrado there exist animals such as emus, lizards, armadillos, jaguars, and so on, and different kinds of the insects; African savannahs are the home of large herbivores and carnivores, such as zebras, antelopes, giraffes, lions and leopards.
