Why doesn't a long enduring vaccine against common cold subsist yet?

Viruses which present a high mutation rate such as the virus which causes the common cold escape simply from the action of vaccines against them. Subsequent to a primary immune response (that is, natural or artificially induced) against virus in the subsequent season of infection new mutant resistant strains emerge and the protection received with the immune response of last season is lost. (That is, one could state that the high mutation rate is a form of ‘immunization’ found by such viruses.)
