Connecting to the capacitor across generator always increases the power factor, however it will depends on the capacity of the engine of alternator, and on the other hand the alternator will get over loaded because of the extra watts which is consumed because of the development on pf. Moreover, don’t connect the capacitor across the alternator when it is picking up or without any other load.
